Zechariah
Visions and messages of hope for returned exiles
Zechariah, a priest and prophet in Judah, wrote this book for the returned exiles. His ministry began in 520 BC, the second year of King Darius, alongside the prophet Haggai. This was about sixteen years after the first company returned from exile. The people faced questions about whether to keep observing days of mourning for the destruction of the city. Zechariah delivered solemn warnings, encouraging messages, and symbolic visions to furnish consolation, stir up hope, and assure the present generation of God's presence and blessing.
