Nehemiah
Rebuilding Jerusalem's walls and religious reform
Nehemiah wrote this book, though Ezra may have written a few portions. Nehemiah likely compiled it in Jerusalem, probably about 431 to 430 BC, after returning from his second visit to Persia. This book continues the history of Ezra and closes the Old Testament record. During this time, Malachi was prophet. The Jewish people were rebuilding Jerusalem's walls, registering those who had returned from Babylon, increasing the city's population, and carrying out religious reforms under Nehemiah's leadership.
