Amos
A humble herdsman warns prosperous nations to repent
Amos wrote this book. He was a humble herdman and sycamore tree dresser from Tekoa, a town southeast of Bethlehem. He prophesied during the reigns of King Uzziah of Judah and King Jeroboam II of Israel, alongside Isaiah and Hosea. Under Jeroboam II, Israel reached the height of its prosperity. However, this wealth was followed by luxury, vice, and idolatry. God called Amos to speak to Israel, Judah, and nearby nations. He reminded the people of God's justice and called them to repent, weaving in many details from farming and nature.
