2 Kings
The history of Israel and Judah up to the exile.
Originally part of one book with 1 Kings, 2 Kings records the history of the Jewish nation up to its conquest by Nebuchadnezzar and the Babylonians. The book does not name its author, but tradition credits it to Jeremiah. It was probably compiled by Ezra after the Captivity, between 561 BC and 538 BC, using older written documents. Compiled during or after the Babylonian exile, the narrative gives special prominence to the kingly office and the tragic story of the nation's downfall.
