1 Kings
History of Israel's monarchs from Solomon to Ahab
First Kings was originally part of a single book in the Hebrew Scriptures. The work is traditionally credited to Jeremiah, though Ezra probably compiled it after the Captivity, between 561 BC and 538 BC. Drawing from earlier sources like the acts of Solomon and royal chronicles, it records the history of the Jewish commonwealth. The narrative spans about four hundred and fifty-three years, moving from Solomon's accession to the kingdom's fall to Nebuchadnezzar and the Babylonians. Throughout these records, special prominence is given to the kingly office.
